Cellulite is the term given to fat deposits just below the skin, typically on the buttocks and the thighs. Cellulite is not an illness or a condition. It is absolutely normal and although seldom found in men the majority of women have it to some extent or another.

Underneath the skin lies a layer of fibrous connective tissue that is responsible for connecting the skin to the muscle beneath it. In most men, this connective tissue is arranged in a criss-cross or diagonal manner, in a smooth and regular pattern.

The connective tissue of women runs vertically to the skin.  Because of this, these fibrous bands attach the skin to the underlying tissue at certain points, essentially creating discrete fat pockets to push up on the skin while the bands pull the skin downward.

This difference in connective tissue arrangement and the fact that men usually have thicker skin than women explains why far fewer men have cellulite than women. Because fat is soft it doesn’t keep our skin taught like muscle does. The fat tends to bulge out from beneath the skin..

There are a lot of reasons why cellulite is said to appear on your body including hormonal reasons, poor diet and lifestyle choices, age and genetic predisposition. A number of claims are made to the efficacy of various therapies as to their ability to eliminate cellulite. The reality is that there is no treatment available that can safely eliminate cellulite.

Massage with carefully blended essential oils can reduce the visual appearance of the skin caused by cellulite. This type of massage is more vigorous than the usual holistic massage. The massage strokes are deeper and applied with greater pressure. The massage combined with appropriately selected oils help smooth the skin and aids the elimination of toxins via natural body processes.

A significant change in skin texture and body shape will be evident after a series of treatments (6 to 10) over a period of a month to six weeks. This change will be temporary, making the treatment useful to prepare for special occasions like a holiday, and when combined with a change of diet and increase in exercise (details will be given at the start of treatment) the change will be far more permanent.

The charge for each cellulite massage treatment lasting 30 to 40 minutes is £30. For a more relaxing experience this treatment can be combined with a full body massage at a total cost of £45 per individual treatment.
